Devastation è stato prodotto da John Congleton (St. Vincent, Swans). Durante la registrazione dell'album, la band è stata  raggiunta da Justin Chancellor dei Tool, che dopo essere diventato fan all'epoca del debutto, ha prestato le sue doti al basso e il suo stile inimitabile.
 
Sin dalle prime note di “Fall Apart”, chiunque conosca i Pumarosa può affermare che c'è stata un'evoluzione nel sound. Il veloce drum'n'bass accompagnato da un riff tagliente e da una distesa di synth, rappresenta un'evoluzione dal debutto The Witch dove le chitarre erano predominanti. Esplorando in profondità l'elettronica di Aphex Twin e Autechre, lo shock di “Fall Aparat” rispecchia il cambio irreversibile nel sound dei Pumarosa: diagnosi devastanti, nuovi inizi e un ottimismo inusuale - la promessa di ciò che può essere costruito solo dopo un periodo di totale annientamento - il tutto racchiuso in un album che suona come una dichiarazione di vita coinvolgente.

Learning to 'Fall Apart' may not have come easily to Pumarosa, but what's emerged in 'Devastation' is an album about transformation on a more cellular level. First came the chaos: on the week 'The Witch' was released, the band's lead singer Isabel Muñoz-Newsome was diagnosed with cervical cancer, with the resulting surgery and recovery totally changing her relationship to her body (and how to write about it). Inner-band relationships also evolved following the departure of bassist Henry, which further energised Pumarosa to explore new spaces in their already-expansive sound. 
 
Introduced in suitably-abrasive style on 'Fall Apart', 'Devastation' is a powerfully  uplifting album that confirms Pumarosa as one of the UK's most inventive and ambitious bands. Songs work though questions of mortality and the pain of love while revelling in sexuality: what it feels like to 'Fall Apart', what it takes to carry on, and what it means to be alive.
